St. Theresa Women's Club has been in existence since 1949 and its members celebrated their 50th anniversary recently. As members, they foster the spiritual development of the women of the parish through social, cultural and educational programs and events. The organization is affiliated with the Alice Area Council of Catholic Women and is part of the Corpus Christi Diocesan Council of Catholic Women, belonging to the National Council of Catholic Women. The National Council of Catholic Women is a federation of 7,000 Catholic women's organizations representing millions of Catholic women across the country. It was founded in 1920 at the request of the United States Catholic bishops who had seen the work accomplished by the many separate Catholic women's groups during World War I and urged them to unite their efforts by forming a federation. |
